The Diploma in Work Health and Safety reflects the requirements for effective and accurate management of safety in a modern workplace.  It is an invaluable qualification in order to effectively provide due diligence in the discharge of duty of care.

This qualification is suitable for people who coordinate and maintain the work health and safety (WHS) program in an organisation. It reflects the role of practitioners who apply a substantial knowledge base and well-developed skills in a wide variety of WHS contexts.

Assessment Overview

A fully mentored recognition of prior learning (RPL) process means you have access to an assessor who is an industry expert. Your assessor will guide you through the process and give you full support until you have gathered the required evidence.

RPL recognises the skills, knowledge and experience acquired training, work or life experience, internal training courses, professional development and can even extend to hobbies and charity work related to project management.

Evidence Required

Work History, documentation relating to projects you have managed, evidence requirements will be discussed with your BEST Assessor and can be tailored to your particular industry.

  • BSBWHS515 Lead initial response to and investigate WHS incidents
  • BSBWHS516 Contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining an organisation’s WHS management system
  • BSBWHS519 Lead the development and use of WHS risk management tools
  • BSBWHS522 Manage WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBWHS514 Manage WHS compliance of contractors
  • BSBWHS517 Contribute to managing a WHS information system
  • BSBWHS518 Manage WHS hazards associated with maintenance and use of plant
  • BSBWHS520 Manage implementation of emergency procedures
  • BSBWHS521 Ensure a safe workplace for a work area

One unit from Cert IV, Diploma level or Advanced Diploma level may be considered as an elective on request. Contact BEST administration for clarification.

Entry Requirements

All core units in BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent competencies:

  • BSBWHS412 Assist with workplace compliance with WHS laws
  • BSBWHS413 Contribute to implementation and maintenance of WHS consultation and participation processes
  • BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management
  • BSBWHS415 Contribute to implementing WHS management systems
  • BSBWHS416 Contribute to workplace incident response.
